SEUL CHOIX POINT

After leaving Manistique, we jumped on Route 2 East, heading for Seul Choix Point Light on Lake Michigan, which is down a remote dirt road taking you south down a horn shaped strip of land to a point.

This was an interesting location.

The house was restored authentically and you could climb this lighthouse.

A very unique detail in this house was the copper moldings around the doorways to the rooms.Something I have never heard of,or seen.

They also had a gift shop in another building on the property.

Supposedly the lighthouse is haunted !!!

Joseph Willie Townsend was the keeper there from 1902 to 1910 when he died in that upstairs bedroom. His body was drained and prepared for his wake which was held in the basement. He lay in state in the parlor until his relatives could assemble from other locations. He was buried nearby in a cedar coffin. Joseph was a cigar smoker in life, but his wife refused to let him smoke in the house. Now cigar smoke is often smelled in the house, as if Townsend now enjoys what his wife forbade.

I climbed the stairs to the top for a view of the surrounding area.
