Hillbilly Hotdogs - West Virginia

There is a rustic road side oddity and food stand situated along the Ohio River Road in Lesage, West Virginia. Let me tell you - it is something to behold.

It was a Sunday morning that I stopped in. They don't open until noon on Sunday, so I didn't get a chance to try their vittles, but did walk the grounds taking it all in.

Check out the kissin' couzns maryin' booth. Spots for the "baggage" to show their faces for the photograph !!

There was a young Hillbilly girl there cleaning up as they were preparing to open. She gave me a menu and encouraged me to return some time and sample the fare.

Before leaving, Sonny the owner showed up and introduced himself. I mentioned to him that I had first learned of his place when it was listed as a mandatory receipt location for an Iron Butt ride called the Hillbilly 1000 that was put on by Hoagy's Heroes earlier this year.

Although I didn't participate in the ride, this location seemed very interesting and therefore was made note of for future reference. Sooner or later, I'd pass by Hillbilly Hotdogs. That was for certain. It happened sooner.

Weddin Chapel and everything. Yes, you can even get married here.

Note the wooden home wrecker sign. That is one of their specialties.

No kidding, they have it all here ! Beer, ice cream, food, shirts, patches, stickers. You name it.

Here's the whole dang back story from their website.

“It’s been 15 years since this West Virginia hillbilly and

California city girl followed our dreams of being together

and opening a weenie stand along the riverbank of the Ohio River

in Lesage, West Virginia.

In the fall of 1999, we built a 12x16 building on the land where

Sonny grew up and Hillbilly Hotdogs opened its doors for the

very first time on September 6, 1999 but then we closed three

days later so we could get married - we have renewed our vows

over 30 times since!

A decade and a half later, we are still crazy in love and still

going strong. We have outgrown and upgraded from that 12x16

building; we added two old school busses and we continue to

grow more and more every day. We owe our success to all of you

thousands of weenie lovers who visit us each and every year.

Thank Ya’ll so much for your continued support and patronage!

Yee Haw!”

An elevated deck for your dining experience.

Or if it is too hot, enter one of the air conditioned school buses !

Before leaving, don't forget a stop into the gas station. You don't even have to wait for your buddy. A two seater !
